Once a patient has completed our residential program they may not be ready to go back into the community. Drew Edmund Psychiatric Centers offers three step down options that provide a gradual reintroduction back into the community and a chance to practice the skills they have acquired. The first step down is “Partial Hospitalization Programming“.

Typically this is an out-patient program where the patient lives at home and comes for treatment at our center several days per week. Because Drew Edmund Psychiatric Centers draws patients from all over the United States, it is not feasible for them to live at home. Therefore our contract with the insurance companies allows for the patient to continue living at our center. Fortunately, this is true for our next step-down which is called IOP or “Intensive Outpatient Programming“.

This program continues the group and individual therapy the patient has been receiving but includes fewer hours and fewer days per week. Hopefully, by this time, the patient is ready to reintegrate back into the community. Sometimes that is not the case and it may be more beneficial for the patient to continue at Drew Edmund Psychiatric Centers in our “Long Term Residential Program” This is an open- ended option where the patient may continue living at our center and receive on-going therapies, medication management, access to our activities and needed supervision. It is our goal at Drew Edmund Psychiatric Centers to provide the most comprehensive options for the patients we serve.
